RAID: Shadow Legends is a MMORPG featured mobile game offered by Plarium Global Ltd. It can be downloaded for free on App Store and Google Play and some special items and upgrades can be further purchased at in-game store. The general goal of the game is to defeat enemies by recruiting, training and assembling your team of warriors/champions from 16 different factions of both Light and Darkness. There are multiple playing modes in RAID and role-playing is a prominent feature in most game modes. Each playing mode has slightly different game objectives and rules. Players usually start their RAID journey from the ‘Campaign’ mode where the game play follows a storytelling and players go on RPG styled campaigns to save the world of Teleria. Players can also play in the Dungeon mode where their team of warriors need to resist two waves of enemy attacks until they face the intimidating final boss. Besides, they can also join ‘Faction wars’ where players can select a themed crypt and play through the crypt in multiple battle stages. Another game mode is ‘Clan Boss’ which requires players to join certain game clan and get involved in the PvE boss fights. These abovementioned play modes integrates an obvious role-playing characteristic while at the same time, if players want to take a break from RPG, they can opt for a PvP styled Arena battle. This playing mode is real-time multiplayer heads-on combat where players can enjoy the pure fun of fighting. Apart from those, an auto-play mode is also possible and that saves much hassle and grinding time for players in this fantastic gaming world. The main game play mechanism lies in the coordination among warriors and the match combination can vastly affect the battle outcomes. Each champion can be equipped with six so-called artifacts which can be specialized or upgraded. By using scroll resources, players can enhance the features, special skills and powers of their champions. But more importantly, a sensible match based on the affinity attributions of each warrior in the team, gives more buff and edges to win the campaigns and battles. That is to say, a core game play is to learn the different features and affinities of champions to maximize their joint power. The in-game currencies in RAID are silver and gems. The former can be spent on the upgrades of artifacts of champions or on summoning new champions. The latter is used to unlock and upgrade the mine where players can get more gems. Besides, gems themselves can be bought in store with real money and players can use gems to purchase silver.

RAID is generally well received on various app stores and its playing modes greatly accentuate its role-playing feature, yet at the same time, offer different perspectives and twists of the game play. Other than that, it also incorporates a more battle-centered PvP playing mode to bring refreshing gaming experience and cater to diverse tastes of players. The most impressive game feature also lies in its well-crafted game effects in terms of animation, graphics, designs and the sound effect. Although some players may find the fully voiced campaign not as immersive as that in some PC games, it should be admitted that the extra mile RAID took as a mobile game in its game making. The game is not really simple for new players to comfortably get a grasp on as it layers multi-dimensional complications in its contents. In this sense, players do need a longer learning curve to get used to the affinities and features of warriors and their artifacts. The downside of this game is of course very typical in this mobile game genre. Upgrades purchases are quite costly and certain game glitches cause unfortunate losses for players. Those major and impactful bugs should be fixed in its future updates and new versions.
