Bloons TD6 is a sequel of TD5, developed and offered by Ninja Kiwi in 2018. It is available on iOS, Android and PC platforms. This mobile game app costs $4.99 with further in-game purchase options. This new release is still a tower defense game with the same game goal but more game mechanics and features. The objective of TD6 is still to prevent the enemy balloons known as ‘Bloons’ from invading the tracks by setting up various defensive towers known as ‘Monkeys’. The game control stays simple from a top-down perspective with the newly introduced 3D graphics. The in-game currency ‘Monkey money’ can be earned by popping enemy balloons and Monkey money can be spent on new tower purchase or upgrades on old ones, new powers and heroes. TD6 also introduces a new currency known as the ‘Trophies’ that can be used to buy exclusive cosmetics in the in-game Trophy store. This new release includes more gaming mechanics than its previous one. First, there are two new towers being added to the existing 20 types of monkeys. Towers can be subdivided into four categories (primary, military, supportive and magic) and each type of towers have their own unique features and functions. Besides, TD6 also alters the names of a few towers from its last version. What’s more, TD6 increases the tier numbers of tower upgrades up to 16, doubling that in TD5. It also introduces a few new types of balloons and there are 22 Bloons in total. Among them, there are 12 colored Bloons whose power xp ranges from the equivalent of 1 red Bloons to 104. There are also 5 MOAB class Bloons, 4 Boss Bloons and 2 other ones. Furthermore, TD6 offers 61 maps of various difficulty levels and 1/3 of them are for beginners. Like TD5, players can still choose their desired gaming modes in terms of hard level and player numbers. However, TD6 offers up to 4 people Co-op mode instead of 2 in TD5. Apart from those features mentioned above, TD6 also provides a diverse range of events and custom challenges for players to attempt along with the main gaming. Some interesting events are for example Odyssey Event where players play through a longer gaming session containing 3-5 maps with different rules and features; Race Event, or known as the weekly event, offers speedrun where players try to play through as fast as they can. Plus, players can also enjoy seasonal offers especially during holiday seasons.
Game Review
Bloons TD 6 follows the main game goal and mechanism of its prequel and it retains many well-received game controls. In this new version, players can explore more features and contents, such as new types of Bloons and Monkeys as well as the helping heroes. Those newly added contents expand the playability of the game than its previous one, while players do not necessarily need to prime themselves with the prequel. New players of TD6 can simply follow the in-game tutorial to get a hang of the basic gameplay. Plus, just like its prequel, players can opt for the difficulty level they feel comfortable about and there are plenty of beginner and intermediate level maps for new gamers to practice and improve. The major problems of TD6 still resemble that in TD5, namely the programming flaws of the app. Each time when a new version is offered, the developer fixes some older problems yet brings other new ones. The frequently complained issue is the loss of game progress, which is still not fully tackled in this new version.
